Metaphor Research Merits Poster Session

A researcher at the Center for Educational Technologies® has had a poster presentation accepted for the 2007 Association for Psychological Science annual
conference.Dr. Debbie Denise Reese, senior educational researcher at the center, is a coauthor on "Elaborated Metaphors for Enhancing Chemistry Learning."
The authors say that metaphors can help students learn abstract science concepts. In this study subjects who read metaphors that were elaborated with graphics and text responded to chemistry questions with more targeted concepts than did subjects who read only the metaphors, suggesting that the elaboration facilitated the development of targeted relations.The 19th annual conference will be held May 24-27 in Washington, DC.
